Modular
Released: 09/12/06
Soulwax

It's with huge pride and excitement that we bring you news of the new release from Belgian outfit, SOULWAX. This esteemed production team will be releasing their highly anticipated Nite Versions album on September 12th, 2006 on Modular Records. Soulwax, a.k.a 2 Many DJ's are brothers, David & Stephen Dewaele, and their Soulwax compadres Stefaan Van Leuven and Steve Slingeneyer. They are the most revolutionary group to hit club music this century and many note them to have been the pioneers of the "Mash Up". Nite Versions features brand new interpolations of tracks inspired by and taken from their highly acclaimed and awarded Any Minute Now album. Nite Versions was inspired by the idea of extending and expanding a song to make it work on the dance floor. The Nite Versions live experience brings the full power of the record, with the added sass of a rock band that can tear a roof off playing dance music.

Stephen explains, Nite Versions was inspired by The Human League's Love & Dancing album – the remix album that followed Dare, which was a massive influence on us, and Duran Duran's Nite Versions which appeared on all their early vinyl singles which were all extended, replayed and re-recorded to work in clubs. We’re not trying to make some tribute to the 80’s here, we’re making something that’s referential to the whole notion of the 12" single, from "Blue Monday", "French Kiss" or "Pigbag" to the present day and like minded like people and friends like Tiga, DFA and Gomma.

Nite Versions features tracks that will be familiar to club-goers the world over; their Nite version of "E Talking" was one of the biggest club records of 2004 and their highly sought after Kawasaki Dub of "NY Lipps" is featured here. Amidst the dramatic new tracks are their collaboration with DFA "Another Excuse"- perhaps the best DFA mix to date, and their cover of Daft Punk’s "Teachers". Take note especially of "Teachers". While Daft Punk listed their techno/house gods, Soulwax rattles off rock gods to pay homage to their influences. Cheap Trick, Mortorhead, T-Rex, Pretty Things, Jane's Addiction, Sonic Youth, The Clash, ACDC, Monster Magnet and MC-5 to name a few. The album forms one of the most complete records you’ll hear all year. From electro to techno, via huge rock bombast, almost ethereal Roxy Music-esque wig-outs, vocal twists and club delirium as only the brothers Dewaele could deliver. London based designer Trevor Jackson is on board once again designing the artwork for this album. He picked up several luminary design awards for the artwork on Any Minute Now.

Aside from their own Soulwax output, they have also committed dozens of notable/anthemic/floor busting remixes as Soulwax for the last few years... including the likes of Felix Da Housecat ("Rocketride"), Ladytron ("Seventeen"), Kylie Minogue ("Can’t Get You Out Of My Head"), Playgroup ("Make It Happen"), DJ Shadow ("Six Days") and Sugababes ("Round Round") , Daft Punk ("Robot Rock") and LCD Soundsystem's ("Daft Punk Is Playing At My House") amongst others and have just completed work producing tracks on Tiga's forthcoming debut album back home in Ghent, Belgium.

Ladies and gents, we present you the world class visionaries that are Soulwax.
