British Accents Newsletter *This Sunday on British Accents Radio, THE CRIMEA are scheduled to stop by and talk about their new album "Tragedy Rocks", their American travels and whatever else is on their minds. The Crimea will play Monday, October 3 at TT the Bear's. Also on this week's show is brand new music from FRANZ FERDINAND, OASIS, SUPER FURRY ANIMALS, THE RAKES, ORDINARY BOYS, ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN, ELBOW, TOM VEK and much more. *Other radio news - your humble narrator has recently been named the new Local Music Director on WFNX 101.7, which basically means I'll be hosting "New England Product" on Sunday nights. For years I've been excited to spin some of my favorite local bands on "British Accents", and now I get to play an entire 1-hour block of local music every Sunday night from 10-11pm (note: this Sunday's show will air at the program's old time, 9-10pm). Tune in to hear great new music from THE APPRECIATION POST, PROTOKOLL, SWIM TEAM and lots more. If you're in a Boston-area band and want to submit a CD for airplay, contact me for the address. If you've already sent a CD to British Accents, then I have it already. *A double-disc compilation to benefit the Katrina relief effort from FILTER MAGAZINE is on the way, featuring tracks from BRITISH SEA POWER, DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE, TOM VEK, GANG OF FOUR, OF MONTREAL, TV ON THE RADIO, AMUSEMENT PARKS ON FIRE, BECK, BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB and many more. The CD will be available at Urban Outfitters locations across the US, and available on the chain's website. *NYC's legendary "Tiswas" night has left the confines of Don Hill's and it's $7 Budweisers behind. The club's website says they'll re-locate in a new venue in the coming weeks or months, and when BA hears about a new home for this long-running night, we'll let you know. *SUPER FURRY ANIMALS have announced a fall North American tour that includes the following dates: Roxy in Boston on November 7, Webster Hall in NYC on November 5-6, and SF's Fillmore on November 28. *In other Furries news, DJ DANGER MOUSE has remixed the single "Lazer Beam". You can find said remix on the band's special "Love Kraft" site *GANG OF FOUR will make a special brief appearance at the Boston Music Awards this Wednesday, September 28 at Avalon. The band will play a short set as the special guests, along with DEAR LEADER, APOLLO SUNSHINE and other notable Boston bands. A handful of tickets are available through www.nextticketing.com *NME has the official word on BABYSHAMBLES' long-awaited debut album. The record will be called "Down in Albion" and is released November 14 in the UK on Rough Trade. The single "Albion" will follow on November 28. *LADYTRON release their third studio album, "Witching Hour", on October 4 in the US. *MORRISSEY is in the studio recording what will become his third album in as many years (if you count the live disc), a record he describes as a "balls to the wall rock record". By Morrissey standards, balls to the wall means we'll probably get a few more songs like "Irish Blood, English Heart" thrown in with the ballads. *ISOBELLE CAMPBELL is a busy woman. Free of her BELLE & SEBASTIAN duties, she's got 2 new solo albums in the offing - "Ballad of the Broken Seas" will be released later this year, and "Milk White Sheets" will come out sometime in 2006. *RADIOHEAD are back in the studio to record the follow-up to "Hail to the Thief", which will be released sometime in 2006. *FRANZ FERDINAND will release a double-disc DVD this fall in the UK consisting of live shows from London and San Francisco. Look for the US release of this DVD before Christmas. *KASABIAN will release a live DVD on November 7 in the US, called "Live From Brixton Academy". Included is the December, 2004 concert, plus a tour documentary called "Expanding the Empire", which contains footage of them on tour in America and Japan. *GRAHAM COXON has taken another shot at the remix (he remixed IDLEWILD's "Rusty" a few years ago) with his tinkering of the LOWGOLD single "Beauty Dies Young", to be included on an upcoming Lowgold b-sides/unreleased/etc collection. *Excellent Online reports that IAN BROWN's "Greatest" best-of collection will be released on October 18 in the US. *BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE have had to endure many misfortunes over the years, and last week in NYC they were faced with another. The band's van, trailer, and all of their equipment (much of it vintage and custom) were stolen in Brooklyn during CMJ weekend. A list of the missing gear can be seen on the band's website - www.brianjonestownmassacre.com *On TV this week (courtesy of Torr) - DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE on Conan O'Brien 9/27, STELLASTARR* on Carson Daly 9/27, and SUPERGRASS on Jay Leno 9/29. *Another reason to thank Torr - on his aformentioned site is a link to download a new OASIS song from the "Goal" soundtrack - "Who Put The Weight of the World on My Shoulders?" Too bad this song didn't end up on "Don't Believe The Truth". You can also download a PROTOKOLL song there. *BRITISH SEA POWER side project BRAKES will do a 2-night stand at Pianos in NYC on October 3 & 4th. *SHOOTING AT UNARMED MEN is a new band featuring JOHN CHAPPLE, formerly of MCLUSKY. Their new single "The Pink Ink" is out in the UK today, with the full-length due on Halloween overseas. *This Monday, October 3, at Bowery Ballroom is another Katrina benefit show, this one starring SUFJAN STEVENS along with ADAM GREEN, GRIZZLY BEAR, OTHER PASSENGERS, AKRON/FAMILY and WOODEN WAND. *Last Sunday's British Accents radio playlist can be viewed here.
