Filter's Top 10 of 2005, Day One: Ricky Wilson of Kaiser Chiefs
by Staff & Ricky Wilson | 00.00.0000

Here's the icing on the day one cake, dear friends. Ricky Wilson, wine spritzer enthusiast, England's high-jump/scissor kick champion and singer of 2005's breakout Leeds based indie band Kaiser Chiefs is bestowing all his brit-rock snobbery upon us (in a very friendly way of course).

To acquaint you with all the UK bands and lingo that may fall deaf on our American ears, Ricky has given us a blow-by-blow (or hit-by-hit in this case) commentary of all of his top picks for 2005.

Over to you, Ricky...

Ricky Wilson of Kaiser Chiefs

1. Belle & Sebastian, Push Barman to Open Old Wounds (Matador)
Ricky: Possibly, without me realizing it, Belle & Sebastian have become my favorite contemporary band.

2. Clor, Clor (EMI)
Ricky: The cooler you are the less you have to try. That applies to this.

3. The Cribs, The New Fellas (Wichita)
Ricky: If you haven’t got it into your skulls by now that you should buy this record then you are obviously a twat, or work in the music industry, or most probably both. It’s ace.

4. Supergrass, Road to Rouen (Capitol)
Ricky: I sometimes find it weird that we are the same age as them. They've certainly grown up more, but they have a 10 year head start. I hope we are that good when we are their age. I'm totally confused now.

5. Field Music, Field Music (Memphis)
Ricky: Never heard this but Whitey loves it and says it will make me look cool.

6. Foo Fighters, In Your Honor (RCA)
Ricky: Now that D.G. is my BEST friend and I hang out with him ALL the time, I thought I’d give him a leg up and plug his new band.

7. Graham Coxon, Happiness in Magazines (Astralwerks)
Ricky: Every golden envelope with ‘Best U.K. Male’ or ‘Best Solo Artist’ or ‘Nicest Shoes’ should contain this fella’s name.

8. Various Artists, Help: A Day in the Life (Independiente)
Ricky: Good cause; good album. It’s always nice to hear new exclusive stuff from your favorite bands, especially when they are rushed—it seems a bit more honest.

9. Morrissey, Live at Earls Court (Sanctuary)
Ricky: I usually don't like live albums, but as usual, Morrissey manages to surprise.

10. OK GO, Oh No (Capitol)
Ricky: The curse of the ‘one-hit wonder’ knocked these guys for a bit, but they are a great band and certainly ‘got got got got got over it’ with their second studio recording. They also bought me a tie... I lost it in Ibiza.
