Meat Puppets Reunite Following the day's trend, Cris and Curt Kirkwood of the Meat Puppets announced today that the band are reuniting. After not even seeing each other since 1998, the brothers have hunkered down to write a new album, which Curt told Billboard will be "epic". In the time between this and the last Meat Puppets album featuring both Kirkwood brothers, 1995's No Joke!, Cris battled a heroin addiciton, cumulating with an assault on a security guard which resulted in him being shot and sentenced to 18 months of jail time. Curt told Billboard that he was confident in his brother's rehabilitation: "He's (been) clean for more than two years and he's all raring to go. Cris' resurrection is no less than miraculous — it's like a Lazarus-type thing. I was just like, 'If Cris is back, I know his frame of mind.' If he's upright and walking, it's hard to knock him down." Original Meat Puppets drummer Derrick Bostrom was invited to the party, but turned the brother's Kirkwood down. Sitting in on sticks will be Primus drummer Tim Alexander. Apparently he and Cris share a dentist. No release date has been set for the album, but Curt Kirkwood will be on the road to support his solo debut "Snow", playing with Son Volt and Drive-By Truckers Filter is quietly hoping that the next early 90's alt-rock band to announce that they are reuniting today will be Pavement. | ![]() |
