<itunes:summary>Filter MagCast is what you get when a couple of Filter staffers find a mic and a mixer, barricade themselves inside the CD closet and banter about their favorite music of the moment on their lunch break. This promises to be the first of many off-the-cuff, thrown-together pirate DJ sessions coming live from the humid confines of the Filter offices in Hollywood.

Resident Kentucky boys Pat and Eli (the "Dukes of Hollywood") somehow earned the honor of spittin into the mic for this first ever inaugural world premiere Filter MagCast. Listen in as these lanky Venice roomies "whinnie" and "kaw" through a 20-minute laughter-filled show featuring new nuggets of music from the following bands/albums:

The Redwalls, de nova (Capitol)
Sufjan Stevens, Illinois (Asthmatic Kitty)
The Ponys, Celebration Castle (In the Red)
Mazarin, We're Already There (I and Ear)
The Cranes, Particles and Waves (Dadaphonic)
Scarling, So Long, Scarecrow (Sympathy for the Record Industry)
Nada Surf, The Weight Is a Gift (Barsuk)

Filter MagCast #017 -- WolfCast! REPOST

If the original post of this one didn't work for you, try this. We had a small problem with our media feed, now fixed. Thanks.

Wolves are a scary bunch--always knashing their teeth, devouring cute little bunnies, howling eerily at the moon. But once we read White Fang in junior high, we realized that they could be kinda cool and protective, too. Whether drawing on their more vicious or their more noble side, wolves have been a popular musical mascot for decades. So Bryan and Joe (aka "Chernobes" and "Ricochet") decided to go on record about the phenomenon for "Filter MagCast 17" (aka...WolfCast!!!)

Featured clips include:
Magnolia Electric Co., "Werewolves of London"
Wolfmother, "Woman" (MSTRKRFT remix)
Peanut Butter Wolf, "In Your Area"
Michael Talbot and the Wolfkings, "Angel of Light"
Howlin' Wolf, "Rockin' Daddy"

Bryan laid off the spirits this time when he kicked it with an always cool Dave Allen (the man behind the bass in Gang Of Four) on the Doug Fir patio during the Portland Music Appreciation Night presented by Filter and Honda Fit.
Filter MagCast #015: Heatin' Up Miami w/Hot Chip

Boo's male podcasting counterpart, Mr. Boo (Bryan, if we're getting technical), broke free from the constraints of the Filter Podcast studio in Los Angeles to host Filter's first annual Music Appreciation Night in Miami. To kick off M3 2006, Filter and Honda Fit had a serious fiesta down in South Beach with The Juan Maclean, Peaches, Tim Sweeney, JDH & Dave P. and UK Buzz band Hot Chip, who took a moment to engage in the first (and only?) M3Cast. Though Bryan and Hot Chip don't have the cosmic bond that he does with Boo over things like twee and, well twee, this podcast is truly an experience that can only be listened to in order to understand...and the word "understand" is used loosely. If you must need a preview though, expect to delve into such serious topics as calf implants, widgets, sandcastles, and Giorgio Moroder... all brought to you by a certain malt liquor energy drink.Parental advisory...there's a notable amount of swearing in this one.

Filter MagCast SXSW 02

As most of Filter is out gallivanting around the streets of Austin raising hell and seeing kickass rock and roll, somebody has to hold down the forts. That’s where I, Leslie, kick in. As I sit here day dreaming of delicious BBQ and warm humid Texas nights, I have spent some time looking at what my don’t-miss shows would have been. From the timeless, romantic singer songwriter tunes by Jose Gonzalez, beautiful, electronically laced tunes by Adelaide’s Clue To Kalo to the rugged, oversexed beats provided by Baltimore’s Spank Rock, I’ve done my own little person SXSW cheat sheet for anyone who’s ready to take some chances this year. Listen up!

Featured tracks include:Jose Gonzalez – “Crosses”Clue To Kalo – “Come To Find A Natural Law”Hot Chip – “Over & Over”Cadence Weapon – “30 Seconds”Spank Rock – “Rick Rubin”

Filter MagCast SXSW #1: It's that time of year again, we've packed away our iPODs, stereos, headsets and boomboxes and we're heading down to Texas to see it all happen live! SXSW is one of our favorite calender events and the Filter posse is out and about in full force all week, running around the streets of Austin attempting to catch as much music as physically possible - while partaking in the occasional Shiner Bock with the locals. In between choosing which dresses to wear Penny and Dani grabbed a moment to give a quick run down of some of Filter's special guests this year at Cedar Street Courtyard, including a sneak preview of the new Morrissey album, an intimate Q&A with Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips, some good rocking with the Duke Spirit, Metric and Nine Black Alps, music from Penny's favorite Aussie highlight band of SXSW 2005 and the inside word on where to find the best BBQ!

Filter MagCast 012 - Twee Cast

Filter MagCast 012: After a month-long cyber-hibernation, the Filter Staff is rested and back to Bryan and Boo team
once again, this time tackling the insular world of twee music. What is twee, you ask? Think soft, cute, yearning pop music by sensitive
white men about silly crushes, being an outsider, etc. Born in the early 80s in northern England and Scotland, it was everything anti-punk.
These days, twee can be summed up in three words: Belle and Sebastian. But besides B+S, Bryan and Boo delve into the
"anorak pop" past with iconoclasts The Pastels and twee rock outfit The Smiths). They also call out the different strains
of modern twee, from gay twee (The Magnetic Fields) to English major twee (The Decemberists) to mainstream twee
(Coldplay) to twee from Canada (Stars) and Norway (Magnet).

Featured clips include:
The Pastels, "I'm Alright With You"
Belle and Sebastian, "Expectations"
The Smiths, "Hand In Glove"
The Magnetic Fields, "The Luckiest Guy On the Lower East Side"
The Decemberists, "Leslie Anne Levine"
Stars, "One More Night"
Coldplay, "Talk" (Filter Radio Chart)
Magnet, "Hold On"
