Bizarre Bass Triangle

Three Manchester music legends are rumored to be putting together what may surely be one of the oddest super-groups ever. The Smiths’ Andy Rourke, former Stone Roses/current Primal Scream member Mani and Joy Division/New Order’s Peter Hook are forming what may be the first all star bass player band. To be called Freebase or Stalingrad, the band was apparently created after the three men joined together to see who the greatest bassist to come out of the industrial-town-cum-new-music-mecca. Apparently, Rourke, Mani and Hook first joined forces in 2000 as the business venture Collective, operating the Bar Cuba nightclub located in Macclesfield. No word yet of whether there will be other musicians involved in the trio’s new outfit. However, an album is in the works.
