John Cale to Release New Album Stateside Former Velvet Underground staple John Cale’s latest solo effort, HoboSapiens, has been slated for a Sept. 7 U.S. release on indie label Or Music. The 12-song album, Cale’s first since 1996’s Walking on Locusts, was released in the U.K. last November on EMI and received positive reviews from the British press. HoboSapiens was co-produced by Cale and Nick Franglen of Lemmon Jelly. Cale is planning to tour the U.S. in support of the album sometime this fall. It is slated to be the influential musician’s most extensive American tour in six years. Besides being the bassist, viola player, keyboardist and co-songwriter alongside Lou Reed for ‘60s experimental rock giants the Velvet Underground, Cale has lent his production skills to several classic records over the past four decades, including Patti Smith’s Horses, and records by Squeeze, the Modern Lovers and more.
