Noise Pop Festival Announces Early Line-up
by Staff | 00.00.0000

San Francisco's annual Noise Pop festival has announced early confirmations include The Polyphonic Spree, Joanna Newsom, Amon Tobin, Ted Leo and The Pharmacists, Nada Surf, Rogue Wave and more.

There's nothing unlucky about the 13th installment of the Bay Area's most beloved music festival, Noise Pop. As a matter of fact, the event - which runs February 22-27 throughout San Francisco - is shaping up to be the biggest and most diverse Noise Pop yet. Early confirmations include The Polyphonic Spree, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Amon Tobin, Joanna Newsom, Nada Surf, Rogue Wave, Mates of State, High on Fire, The Velvet Teen, Nicolai Dunger, and Mac McCaughan of Superchunk's side project, Portastatic. And that's just the beginning; tons more will be announced over the next few weeks.

Noise Pop was founded by music aficionado Kevin Arnold in 1993 as a way to shine light on a largely overlooked yet growing community. What began innocently as a one off, one-night stand has grown into perhaps the most celebrated indie rock leaning festival in the country.

"Our little Noise Pop is growing up so fast," founder Kevin Arnold wistfully laments. "It seems like just yesterday she was in diapers, crawling around from club to club. Now we can barely get her to sit down for dinner, she's busy running all over town between 10 different clubs seeing dozens and dozens of bands. But you know teenagers!"

Noise Pop always places a large emphasis on local musicians with 50 percent or more of the performers hailing from the Bay Area. One of the things that really jumps out about this year's line-up is the number of Bay Area acts in high profile slots.

"Its great to have so many local artists doing so well," says festival co-producer Jordan Kurland, "One of our goals with Noise Pop has always been to work with artists early on and help develop their fanbase. The fact that we have Joanna Newsom, Rogue Wave, and Mates of State - all of whom have opened shows at previous festivals - in a position to headline is really exciting."

In addition the music, also back this year will be the Noise Pop film festival and the co-sponsored Hastings Music Law Summit West. Details on both will be released soon.

All festival badges and tickets for confirmed shows (see list below) go on sale this Sunday, December 12. All festival badges cost $125 and are available through Noise Pop.
